Loutraki Port(from the word 'loutra' meaning baths)
With its long shingle beach and small hidden coves Loutraki beach is a little gem, early evening as the sun is cooling down locals gather to take time out and swim in the crystal clear water. Children jump off the rocks into the sea, locals fish from the waters edge using as little as a reel of line and a piece of stale bread, the old fishermen set out their lines and nets for their evenings catch.
Old wooden caiques dot the shore line of this traditional fishing village. Before 1950 Loutraki was one of the biggest shipyards on the island, shipyards here are no more, however their beloved caiques are still used today day and night to catch the local seasonal delights. An increase in tourism has allowed this working port to survive and grow at a gentle pace allowing it to retain its Greek traditions.
Loutraki is the second port of the island, easily accessible during the winter months and outside of the usual tourist season. In summer, this is the first port of call for the ferries to drop off holiday visitors here to the island before heading off to the port at Skopelos Town.
